What are five books that changed your life?
Inspired by Ms. Genevieve.
Silly Vox. Books don't change lives, LIBRARIES change lives. Seriously, read our slogan. :)
That said, books tend not to change my life, but there are a few, over the years, that stand out:
I taught myself to read on this book. Well, this and "Go, dog, go," which has slightly less plot than a doggy vocabulary worksheet.
Once in a while, you need a book that forcibly reminds you that there are some books out there which frankly suck. This? Is one of those. Yes, I can sort of buy into the "frat hazing that's a little sinister and abusive and eventually goes horribly wrong, leading to investigations, cover-ups, and soul-searching before the protagonist decides to Do The Right Thing," but not in a Middle School. No. Just no.
For the non-initiated, this would be the "Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd Edition, Revised." This book, and the attending course that I had read and pretend to understand this book (plus two cataloging texts, the LoC Classification Guide, the DDC 4-volume cataloging set, and the Cutter-Sandborn Tables) convinced me that, while I love working in libraries, I have literally zero interest in being a cataloger. I also totally lack the temperament for it.
